1. Create a Gallery Wall

Easiest, oldest and tried n tested method with endless possibilities to spruce up your wall is to create a gallery wall.

Along with being easy it can turn out to be a budget option as well. If you explore the options you may land up doing infinite combinations of gallery wall and will love each one. Let me tell you some of the ways in which you can create a gallery wall.

The first option is to create a picture gallery wall with photos friends or families or of your favourite vacation or landscape or your photography etc. Just look at the option below it creates such a wonderful focal point behind the sofa. Asymmetric placement of frames make it look even more attractive.

Colours are important but look at the frames below how timeless they look in black and white.

If symmetry is what your inner voice is telling you, just listen to it. Below is a beautiful example of symmetrical placement, monochromatic tones creating a cohesive look with different pictures

Picture gallery wall is really versatile, scalable and timeless. You can make it out in the following photos. It can be used in a small space and can be used in a big space as well. Based on the size of the wall, frames can be scaled to make the wall look complete.

Also, it’s not necessary to just use on one wall, just make it fluid to run from one wall to another. You can see below what I am trying to say

Moreover, why to go for black, white and gold when you have plethora of colours. Look how the colours have been beautifully played below for gallery walls. Also, they make a wonderful place to accommodate your kids favourite art work.

Some frames can be unconventional and display fabric as an art which makes a statement piece in itself.

But what do you think, photo frames are the only option to create gallery walls? Of course, not… as I have already told we have plethora of options and I will be explaining them ahead.

Carved frames are statement pieces themselves. Just mix and match in different shapes, keep them in same colour or use different colours or colour them in the colour of wall… every option just works.

Go offbeat with different options like ratan baskets, macrame art etc. These along with being offbeat also help in creating interior themes such as bohemian, coastal, rustic, farmhouse etc.  We may discuss about these interior themes sometime later but for now have a look on what I am saying.

2. Make use of Mirror

Using mirrors in a space is a powerful technique that can significantly enhance the overall space. Mirrors not only serve a practical purpose but also add depth, light, and a touch of elegance to a room. It gives feeling of expansion of the space, makes the room look bigger of course with an advantage of a decorative piece in itself.

Mirror can be customized in various shape, sizes and patterns can also be created using them. Look below and thing how creative you can get.

Plain mirrors in any form are also best to use, they are definitely timeless and elegant. They can be mixed and match with hanging light, wall scones or backlight for creating a certain mood and ambience.

But adding some colours never hurt anyone. It just enhances everything. And below you can see that here also sky is the limit.

You can also give a look of certain era such as Victorian or create a traditional look or bring in cultural diversity by using below mirrors.

3. Wall mouldings and panelling

Wall moulding and panelling are versatile and stylish options for enhancing the interior of a space. It can be used in various ways to add texture, depth, and visual interest to walls. Whether you prefer a traditional, rustic, or contemporary look, wall panelling offers numerous design possibilities.

First let’s understand the difference between wall moulding and wall panelling. Wall panelling refers to covering a wall with large panels made from various materials such as wood, stone, PVC or composite materials. Wall panelling typically covers a significant portion or the entire wall surface, creating a seamless and uniform look. Below are some of the wall panelling options.

These days fluted panels are in trend and used in interiors extensively. They are easy to install and give a wood like look. Apart from this MDF fluted panels are also available which can be painted with desired colour and create the desired look that you want. Below are the two different ways in which we have used fluted panel in our projects.

Wall moulding, also known as trim, refers to decorative elements applied to the surface of a wall. Moulding serves to enhance the architectural features, add decorative details, and create visual interest on the wall. Moulding comes in various profiles and designs, ranging from simple and understated to intricate and ornate, allowing for customization based on design preferences. Wall moulding is installed by attaching individual trim pieces to the wall using nails, screws, or adhesives. It requires precise measurements and cutting to achieve the desired look.

To create a contemporary look, mix and match wall moulding and panelling like done in for some of the spaces below.

Of course, in designing there are no set rules. There is nothing right and wrong. You can mix various option to create a unique look. Use fluted panels with 3D panels, use wall moulding with mirrors, use lights inside panels, use metal inlays etc. Look at the references below and understand what I am trying to say.

In summary, Wall panelling covers a significant portion or the entire wall surface with large panels, adding texture and dimension to the wall. It can serve as a focal point and conceal imperfections. On the other hand, wall moulding is applied to specific areas of the wall, enhancing architectural features, adding decorative details, and creating visual interest. It defines boundaries and transitions between wall sections. Both wall panelling and wall moulding contribute to the aesthetics and design of a space, but they have distinct characteristics and applications.

4. Try Colour Blocking

Colour blocking is a technique that involves using bold, contrasting colours in distinct blocks or sections within a space. It is a creative approach to colour usage that can make a strong visual impact and add vibrancy to the overall design.

Colour blocking relies on using colours that have high contrast. This contrast creates a dynamic and visually striking effect. Look at the reference below how beautifully a focal point has been created using high contrast colour.

Using monochromatic colour blocking not only adds visual interest but also acts as decorative element. Look how the wall is simply adorned with green monochromes. No other element is needed to add to your wall, no drilling no screwing needed. Just paint the wall with a thought of colour blocking and job done. Easy right!!

Colour blocking is really versatile and easy to do. Colour blocking can be employed to visually divide a large space into different zones or areas. Whether you want to create a reading nook, highlight your wall shelving or visually divide a large space into different zones or areas, colour blocking is the solution. Look at the references below and you will be able to read my mind.

Protip: While colour blocking involves the use of contrasting colours, it is important to maintain a sense of visual harmony and balance within the space. Consider the overall colour scheme and choose colours that complement each other and work well together.

When implementing colour blocking, consider the size of the space, the desired atmosphere, and the overall design concept. Experiment with different colour combinations, and don’t be afraid to be bold and adventurous. Remember, colour blocking is about creating visually impactful statements through the skilful use of contrasting colours in defined blocks or sections, adding energy and excitement to your design.

In the world of interior design, creativity knows no bounds, and one remarkable way to infuse artistic expression into a space is through hand-painted walls or wall murals. 6. Wallpapers with a twist

Wallpaper is a versatile design element that can transform the look and feel of a space. It offers a wide range of possibilities for adding colour, pattern, and texture to walls. We all know we can cover full wall with wallpaper. It’s one of the easiest and hassle-free way to spruce up your wall.

But have you thought we can use wallpaper with a twist by creating decorative panels or borders on walls. This technique involves applying wallpaper to a specific section of the wall, such as the lower half, applying it in a niche and pairing it with complementary paint or another wallpaper above. This creates a layered and textured look while adding visual interest to the room.

It can be installed in an architectural niche as well to create a focal point. See the below references of the same.

This is not where the list ends, twist awaits when we use wallpaper as a creative backsplash behind the sink or vanity area and create that dramatic powder room. This adds a pop of pattern and colour to the space while protecting the wall from splashes.

Wallpaper offers endless possibilities for adding personality, character, and visual impact to your interior design. Remember to choose a wallpaper that complements the overall design style and colour scheme of the room. Experiment with different patterns, textures, and scales to achieve the desired look.
